Appearing on the sands of Mother's Beach in Marina Del Rey like Endora's arrival in Samantha’s living room, the West Hollywood Oars was a rowing squad created to compete at the 1998 Amsterdam Gay Games. The name stayed with us through the years and now the squad has become a social group that serves to connect local gay and lesbian rowers, coxies, coaches, and our straight rowing friends. Our group counts members from the Los Angeles Rowing Club, the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center, the California Yacht Club, the Long Beach Rowing Association, and the Southern California Scullers Club. We get together to talk rowing, to help rowers find each other, to help those looking to find rowing in the Los Angeles area, and to help rowers looking to form a squad to compete at a regatta. A social meetup group for gay and lesbian rowers in the Boston area. If your experience with rowing involves being on the water, and when you're inside you refer to those godawful contraptions as "ergs" and not as "rowing machines", then you're somebody who should join this group. There are hundreds of us LGBT rowers out there in the Boston area -- we're just waiting to finally meet each other. Share this group: http://bostongayrowers.glrf.info

From the GLRF classic literature companion: Rowing festival – in the modern world, a day or days set aside by a club, city, state, or country for the worship of rowing gods. Although festivals have been associated, in some aspect with a religious practice, a rowing festival is a purely secular activity, marked by frequent occasions of stroking, feathering, general merrymaking and gaiety. Feasting, athletics, play-acting, and bawdiness are all considered appropriate constituents of rowing festivals. Share this group: http://miamirowingfestival.glrf.info
