Many people are troubled by the overuse of the word homophobia. Perhaps this makes a more definitive explanation:
"A community of athletes, coaches and fans who are committed to making sports inclusive for everyone."
Of course, the gay and lesbian teams, leagues, and multi-sport gay and lesbian sports organizations might take issue with one of the oft-cited quotes of the Athlete Allies:
"I’m an Athlete Ally because sports know no sexual orientation."
