Appearing on the sands of Mother's Beach in Marina Del Rey like Endora's arrival in Samantha’s living room, the West Hollywood Oars was a rowing squad created to compete at the 1998 Amsterdam Gay Games. The name stayed with us through the years and now the squad has become a social group that serves to connect local gay and lesbian rowers, coxies, coaches, and our straight rowing friends.
Our group counts members from the Los Angeles Rowing Club, the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center, the California Yacht Club, the Long Beach Rowing Association, and the Southern California Scullers Club.
We get together to talk rowing, to help rowers find each other, to help those looking to find rowing in the Los Angeles area, and to help rowers looking to form a squad to compete at a regatta.
