SYDNEY: Bear Bar, a pop-up bar operating during Mardi Gras, has announced that its charity ‘slave’ auction, which proved so popular last year, will return on February 28 with a twist - each of the ‘slaves’ will be from one of Sydney’s top sporting teams. The Sydney Rangers soccer club (above), the Sydney Convicts rugby club, the Sydney Stingers water polo team, the Sydney Silverbacks wrestlers and the Wett Ones swimming club have each put forwarded a team member to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
All proceeds from the auction will go to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF), Australia’s oldest HIV charity.
Sydney Rangers FC President Joseph Roppolo said the club was looking forward to doing its part in helping a good cause.
“We’re really excited to be a part of the slave auction because the bear community is known for its generous community spirit and love of a beer with mates. This is going to be a lot of fun.
“Sydney Rangers FC has a rich history of supporting the bear community and we’re looking forward to helping Bear Bar raise money for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation.”
This is the second year that BGF has been involved with the pop-up Bear Bar. CEO David Riddell told SX: “Bear Bar’s Slave auction is one of the most fun events you can attend that supports the 1000 plus clients of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation”.
“You can expect men, music and mayhem whilst raising dollars that really help people living with HIV across NSW stay well in their own homes”.
Bear Bar Slave Auction is on February 28, from 5pm, Top Floor, Burdekin Hotel, 2 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.
