Two of the world’s oldest gay rugby union teams will clash this weekend to commemorate their shared history of inclusion in sport, while back home on the Sunshine Coast the Brisbane Hustlers take on the Noosa Dolphins. The new UK Pioneers Cup sees London’s Kings Cross Steelers and the Manchester Village Spartans face each other after their legendary match of 1999, reports GT magazine.
The new annual event aims to recognise the long history of achievement and inclusion of LGBT rugby, and will be held at the home ground of the Kings Cross Steelers as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their founding.
Meanwhile, closer to home, fans of gay and inclusive rugby can check out the Brisbane Hustlers tomorrow (Sunday, Feb 28) as they play against the Noosa Dolphins in a Sunshine Coast Pride Festival event.
Kick-off is 1.30pm this Sunday at the Noosa Dolphins home ground at 1 Bicentennial Drive, Sunshine Beach, Noosa.
