We will have a blog post about the who/what/why that prompted GLRF to organize an erg event at the Sin City Classic. Once that is written, a link will be added here to the blog post.

We welcome all comments but for this discussion topic, we will respond to ideas and suggestions. The naysayers might contribute but we're already committed. So onwards.

What's the quick and dirty?

GLRF is hosting an indoor rowing event, an ergatta, at the Sin City Classic on 16 - 20 January 2020. The Sin City Classic is an lgbtq+ multi-sport event that has grown in 12 years from just softball to now 24 sports. We have called the event the Sin City Erg. Our own landing page is sincityerg.org Yes, indoor rowing is sport #21.

The ergatta is one day, on Saturday, 18 January 2020 at the Chuck Minker Sports Complex. We have reserved the entire gymansium at the sports complex which encompasses about 1.5 basketball courts. Yes, it does have roll out bleachers. Yes there is wifi. Yes there are locker rooms and showers. Yes, we will have food trucks outside.

Okay, now for the transparency/disclosure notice:

  1. Sports organizers are provided with one complimentary room for friday/saturday/sunday night.

  2. By contract between GLRF and the Sin City Classic, we can only officially promote the host hotels: Flamingo and Linq. Rowers are not obligated to stay there, and rooms may sell out but if they do sell out, we can't officially direct people to another hotel or lodging source. Also, GLRF will receive $5 per room for each stay. Given the costs of staging, ergs, multi media, equipment rentals, and the space rental, that small income will be nice but not a massive help.

  3. GLRF may provide airfare and hotel rooms for ergatta organizing committee folk.

  4. Each sport is required by the license with the Sin City Classic to purchase a certain number of wristbands for their estimated participants, and which truly comprise the only real registration process that you officially experience with the Sin City Classic although every participant does get a gift bag. Some sports will resell the wristbands at a significant markup. We won't do that. We haven't thought of the exact pricing structure but our initial thought is that registered participants in the ergatta will get a wristband included, and then a discounted price for additional bracelets for GLRF OnTheWater members, and then a regular price for GLRF Shoreside members and guests.

Since this is our first year of hosting an ergatta, we plan to start small, only 40 competition ergs with 16 being used for team competition. We have partnered with a company that has created a special team software, allowing a combined time for 2x, 4x, and 8x. Yes, we are saying 'x' because the ergs have two sides to the handle!

Reflecting GLRF membership and in support of the GLRF desire to create a worldwide community for all aspects of the rowing community, entries will be open from age 13 and up. We are currently putting together the entries. We need lots of input and help. Please!!!! Once the entries have been finalized, they will be available on Regatta Central. We are proposing a pricing of $30 for early entry and $40 for late entry, and per event.

With the announcement of the Sin City Erg, GLRF has officially opened its membership to the indoor rowing community.

We need help with the ergatta. If you and your husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog/cat/friendwithbenefit/straightally/parent want to help, please contact us!
