Issue Of 8+ Open Event

For some of the team captains reviewing emails this morning or last night, it would appear that there is somewhere between misunderstanding to a flat out unknown change of the race programme.

 

We are referring to the 8+ open event on Sunday. From everything we (GLRF) and the Outgames have understood since last year, the 8+ open event would be a 1,000m sprint race and consist of two gender categories, men and women.

 

In addition to the 8+ open event on Sunday, it was our understanding that the 8+ 500m dash event would be a mixed only event, and that it would be held separately from the 8+ open event, as an end of the day fun event.

 

There also seems to be some confusion about whether there are 8+ masters races on Saturday. We believe (fervently hope) that this is simply a typo and a lost in translation exchange among emails.

 

We are working with the Outgames sports department to make sure the race programme is as outlined above.

The Outgames sports department, with our email request in hand, to have 8+ 1000m Masters races on Saturday, to have 8+ 1000m Open races on Sunday, and to have a separate 8+ 500m dash on Sunday, contacted the Regatta Organizing committee by telephone this morning, 18 July 2013.

 

The email reply was that it was a go for the 8+ on Saturday and Sunday, for 1000m. But no mention was made of the 8+ 500m. race.

So we don't really know definitively until probably tomorrow, Friday, 19 July the outcome.
