Our Cptn of boats has checked and apparently we need to bring our own over. He's replied saying this isn't really an option as it doesn't leave any for our regular rowers in Melbourne!

 

This might need another centralised email on the subject to WOGA - it seems ridiculous to be borrowing (and paying 30euros for boats) when cox boxes have to be bought ourselves...

We checked into this, not just with the Regatta Secretary and the Outgames but with upcoming regattas such as the 2013 FISA World Masters. The policy on supplying cox boxes with a boat rental varies within the rowing community. Some regattas offer the cox box as an additional rental. Others simply state that you must bring your own.

 

Cox boxes are an expensive piece of equipment and some clubs simply draw the line at having others use or rent their own.

 

The Regatta Secretary has confirmed that if 8+ crews want to use a cox box, they must bring their own. After an exchange of emails, it appears that the policy would remain the same whether the boat rentals were 5 Euros per seat per day or 35 Euros per seat per day.

 

What we suggest for crews that cannot bring their own cox box is to ask if others might loan or share theirs. We have also created a new Classifieds category where crews can add a listing. That listing will appear on the Classifieds page as well as on the GLRF Boat Rental page.
