Have Another Look At The Open Events

Just received an email from the Regatta Secretary and he indicated most of the entries are for the Masters races on Saturday, and therefore he has inferred that people are hesitant [afraid] to enter the open races on Sunday.

Take a moment to understand how we have structured the Open races. At first glance, you would think that you couldn't possibly win because all the fastest people will wipe you off the course.

But that's not true. By using a time trial first heat format, we are sorting ALL of the entries into separate medal-winning finals.

Let's take the men's 2X event as an example:

if there are 12 entries, because the course is 5 lanes, there will be (3) time trial heats of 4 boats each. The times from each heat will be used to sort ALL the entries into (3) finals, with the lineups decided by the times achieved in the time trial.

Then ALL three finals race. They ALL medal, meaning that gold/silver/bronze is awarded to each of the three winners in each of the finals.

You do the math of the odds of winning a medal in an open event with 12 entries and a masters event with 12 entries ... B)
