Interest In Racing The 2- In Antwerp

The organizers for rowing at the 2013 Outgames have said they might be able to add the 2- as an event if there is enough interest. Right now, for anyone without sculling experience, the only sweep events offered are the 8+ and the 4-. I would definitely be interested in racing the 2- as well in Gent. How many others would be interested in competing in this event? If we can show there is enough interest, the organizers are open to adding it to the regatta schedule.

Does anyone know how the OutGames organizers are gauging interest? When you register for rowing on the site, it doesn't list the 2- what are they using to ask individuals if they would participate in that event? The simple solution would be to add it to the Spring boat registration options (when actual line-ups are entered) with the caveat that it gets cut if X number of boats haven't entered by x date. But to say now that there isn't enough interest when people registered but weren't given the option to select the 2-, seems like it was cut before even gauging interest.

Agreed, Sultan. I'd hope the organizers would expand the events if there is interest, and I hope they are actively gauging interest. Racing the 2- would be awesome.

Just finished the meeting with Outgames organizers and with the regatta committee. Since GLRF is the official rowing partner for the Outgames, the Outgames sports department is going to direct rower inquiries about subjects like these to this group and the group discussion.

 

Additionally, GLRF will post this topic link on the GLRF Facebook page and the upcoming Outgames Rowing newsletter will have the link to this group and discussion as well. The Outgames Rowing newsletter goes to all registered rowers.

 

If there is enough interest indicated here, the regatta organizer will add the event to the regatta registration.

Great. According to the poll, 100% of the respondents have indicated interest in the 2-.

Lol ... well we have 3 votes for the event. Let's wait until the newsletter goes out and see if there are some additional votes ... we don't veto an event. We just provide a community forum discussion so that as many rowers as possible can comment. We just pass along the results of the poll and the discussion.

 

The decision to add a 2- event, if the Regatta Committee and the Outgames organizers feel there is enough interested, will be made towards the end of April before the electronic regatta registration goes online.
