Is Glrf Banned On A Network?

Recommended Posts

Following the recent blog entry about the GLRF website being banned on the British Airways network at the Terminal 4 lounge at London Heathrow, we found there is a huge problem with IT administrators and therefore, the corporate managers who oversee those folks, on what is perceived to be unacceptable for public viewing.

Apparently the mention of gay and lesbian is still considered to be immoral and unacceptable when IT departments are creating filters for their software that blocks sites deemed inappropriate (NSFW?) for public viewing or "corporate" viewing. A recent article on Gay.net highlighted the issue at a local Houston hospital:

Bryan McLeod, a rep for the HCHD, replied saying:

We have an IT Security Department that oversees access and content activity on our network. We brought this concern to them and we reviewed what type of content was being filtered by the software they employ, which uses fairly broad categories such as "gay, lesbian and bisexual," "gambling," "general news," "pornography," "social networking," etc. to monitor and exclude or allow content to pass through our network.

It's time to become activists and let the corporate world know that GLRF website is an acceptable, normal, and healthy online community that promotes the sport of rowing and which is wonderful for your bone density, cholesterol levels, and stress :).

Share your banned GLRF experiences here!

So far on the wall of shame:
