The Vogalonga is held every year on a Sunday. Rowers and paddlers of all manner descend on Venice to join in this grand celebration that takes the flotilla procession from St. Marks Basin, north around the outer islands of Venice and back down and through the main canal.

The event begins with a starting gun at 09:00h. The types of boats that participate in the celebration can vary from a one-man kayak to an 8-person inrigger rowing boat and even up to a 22-person dragon boat. The course measures approximately 30 km. and takes, for rowers, around 3 hours.
