2014 Rowing Festival Price Breakdown
We finally heard back from the Miami Beach Rowing Club this last Thursday. This has been a rather frustrating experience this year since the communication has been almost non existent from MBRC.
The price of the camp is $380 per person for a minimum of 8 persons. With the cost of insurance and the required insurance pool in case of damage, we have set the cost of the event at $630 per person. In years past, we have offered a discount for our OnTheWater members but given the extraordinary cost, it just did not seem fair to add a non-paid premium for our Shoreside members.
So ... the camp is just around the corner and we are faced with do we open registration, accept payments, and then return the payments if we don't get 8 registrations? That doesn't seem fair for those who would pay, purchase airfare, and then have the camp canceled. Therefore, we need 8 RSVP's on the calendar to open registration.
Listed below is the cost breakdown which we also did in the comments for the calendar event.
Cost breakdown:
Insurance general liability + medical rider = $458* or $60/person
Breakage reserve pool = $190**/person
Rowing camp cost per person = $380***/person
Total cost per participant: $630
* So divided by 8, that comes out to $57.25/person - we rounded up
**Since GLRF is on the hook for any damage (up to the deductible) plus transportation costs (if any), we need to develop a prudent reserve pool (includes insurance premiums above). This would be mostly refundable if there was no damage, and it depends on the number of participants:
- with 8 people and no damage, the refund would be $192.75
- with 10 people and no damage, the refund would be $204.20
- with 12 people and no damage, the refund would be $211.83
- and the refund grows with more participants ....
*** This is significantly higher than in years past. The explanation was:
The coaches want to be paid a reasonable amount for the extra sessions on top or their regular schedule ...
