A class action lawsuit has been filed against the 2017 World Outgames organizing entity, the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA), and the two of the Miami Outgames staff members, Ivan Cano and Keith Hart. The lawsuit has yet to be certified by a judge as a class-action.

The news of the action was reported in the Miami Herald. The lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages although a City of Miami Beach audit indicated there was no money left for participants, and the organization was short US$1 million of the US $2.3 million budget at the time of the cancellation on 26 May 2017.

We already posted an entry on the Regatta + Rowing Camp News blog about rowing being cancelled at the 2017 World Outgames.

The registration numbers just were not there and did not look like they would reach a critical mass required by the Outgames to make the event financially viable.

GLRF has contacted the Miami Outgames organizers twice to find out if there is a good point of contact to get refunds for the rowers. Miami Outgames has promised to refund both the sports fee and the participant fee, if requested by the registrant.

Unfortunately, no guidance has been provided. An email to registration@outgames.org bounced. We recommend you contact the Miami Outgames Chief Operating Officer, Keith Hart at khart@outgames.org
