An LGBT soccer team in the UK will be the first to join the local league. Wolverhampton’s newly-formed Black Country Fusion FC are inviting other queer teams for a friendly match before games begin in earnest in the local Beacon League.
Co-Chairman Sky Stewart said: “We want to give them the chance to come and play football in a safe environment with other people who won't judge them.
“We're going into the Beacon League in Wolverhampton on Sundays for the 2016-17 season, it'll be the first time a gay or transgender team has played in the league in Wolverhampton.”
Stewart, who is transgender, said the club is inclusive and has straight members too.
Wolverhampton health insurance agency Paycare has offered sponsorship to the team, and will provide brand new home and away kits and equipment.
