Their membership includes life members, active & social rowers, including school members, and coaches.
Unique among rowing clubs (at least outside of New Zealand) is the membership feature that covers regatta entries, fees to Rowing New Zealand and the Cantebury Rowing Association, as well as administrative fees and boat maintenance.

Balmain Rowing Club is a community club in the heart of Balmain. We pride ourselves on being a "community club," and we offer the opportunity for all members of the community to enjoy the sport of rowing both recreationally and in competition, at novice, intermediate and elite levels.
In particular, we provide access to the sport for junior rowers and young people who may not have the opportunity to row at school or uni, and we are proud to provide a development pathway from absolute beginner through to rowing at representative level.
